Firm Comes Over The Top Of Market 'Cravath' Compensation Scale

First years start at $195,000.

Well, well. It looks like the $190,000 starting salary for first-year associates was only a suggestion for the good folks at Susman Godfrey. They’ve recently announced to their associates that they’re coming over the top of the recently announced Milbank/Cravath scale, by $5,000 per class year.

The message associates received is as follows:

The Partners are pleased to announce that effective July 1, Susman Godfrey associate salaries will be increased to an annual amount that will exceed the “Cravath scale” by $5,000 at every level of associate seniority. The salary increases will not affect our consideration of year-end bonuses. Thank you for all you are doing for the firm and its clients.

So first years will start their legal career making $195,000, and senior associates will top out at $345,000. Not a bad payday at all.

What the firm didn’t announce however, was any Simpson-style summer bonus. While that might seem like a bit of a sting in the short-term, given the litigation boutique’s notoriously generous end of the year bonuses, something tells me these associates will wind up okay.

Remember everyone, we depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Raises Salaries”).
