Quinn Emanuel Revamps Its Summer Associate Program By Bringing Back On-Campus Interviews
Do you have what it takes to score a summer gig at the firm?
About three years ago, Quinn Emanuel made big waves when the firm announced that it would be culling its traditional summer associate program in favor of recruiting third-year law students and federal judicial clerks. Three years before that, Quinn Emanuel made even bigger waves when the firm stopped conducting traditional on-campus interviews in favor of “fun, freewheeling ‘get to know you’ part[ies].”
After six years of marching to the beat of its own drum, Quinn Emanuel is changing its tune once again, but this time, instead of doing something wildly different, the firm will be doing the same thing as almost every other Biglaw firm in the country. This fall, Quinn Emanuel will be coming to a top law school near you to recruit second-year law students for summer associate positions at the firm.
Why the change of heart? Meghan Tribe of American Lawyer has the scoop:

“We found that somebody who’s a 3L in law school is probably a bit closer to [identifying litigation as their area of focus] than 2Ls, and certainly people who have already completed federal clerkships are there already,” said Jennifer Barrett, administrative partner of Quinn Emanuel’s New York office.
“But with that being said, we did re-evaluate, and we recognize that there are really fantastic second-year law students who do know that they want to focus on litigation, and we certainly don’t want to leave those people on the table,” Barrett said.
Last year, Quinn Emanuel had six summer associates, this year, the firm has 20 summer associates, and according to Barrett, next year, the firm hopes to hire two or three times as many summer associates as are in this year’s class. Quinn Emanuel will be heading to 19 law schools in an effort to recruit 40 to 60 summer associates.
Do you have what it takes to score a summer gig at Quinn Emanuel? You’ll find out this fall. Best of luck, and make sure you wear your finest flip-flops.
