Former Solicitor General Don Verrilli To Head Up D.C. Office For Surprising Biglaw Firm
An unexpected new venture for Don Verrilli.

We all knew about Solicitor General Don Verrilli’s departure from the Justice Department, but now we know where he’s going to be working. While many of us assumed Verrilli would head back home to Jenner & Block, the firm where he cut his teeth as a high-powered Supreme Court advocate, Verrilli has instead opted for a new challenge: launching a brand-new D.C. office for Munger Tolles, the elite California-based firm.
Intriguingly, as Sara Randazzo at the Wall Street Journal reported, it seems as though Verrilli had been mulling over this move even before the leadership at Munger Tolles proposed it:
Mr. Verrilli said that in considering his post-government plans, opening a D.C. office for Munger Tolles, a firm he had always respected, occurred to him even before the firm called to woo him.
“It’s a chance to build something that’ll hopefully outlast me,” he said.
Joining him in the new office will be Michael DeSanctis, a former colleague of Mr. Verrilli’s from the law firm Jenner & Block LLP and former deputy associate attorney general Chad Golder.
Congrats to all three on their new venture! Can’t say anyone expected Munger Tolles to be Verrilli’s new home. The firm has famously restricted itself to Los Angeles and San Francisco until now, but if you want to expand, making the move around the outgoing SG seems like a pretty good excuse.
With PPP averaging around $1.865 million, one suspects Munger Tolles can offer the former Solicitor General enough money to finally pay off those pesky credit card balances….
