Am Law 50 Firm Will Pay Bonuses Up To $25K Above Market For 'Extraordinary' Performance

And that's on top of their regular year-end bonuses and special bonuses!

We’re getting closer and closer to the end of 2020, and more and more Biglaw firms are announcing bonuses left and right. Which top-ranked firm is it this time?

Akin Gump — a firm that came in at No. 34 on the most recent Am Law 100 ranking, with $1,135,014,000 in gross revenue — surprised associates with a special bonus match earlier this fall, and now the firm has announced its year-end bonuses, with a promise to pay out even more on top for extraordinary performance.

The firm has matched the bonus scale originally announced by Baker McKenzie and later adopted by Cravath, and there’s a 1,950 billable hours threshold (including pro bono hours, general counsel hours, business development hours, and up to 100 hours of time spent on recruiting, diversity & inclusion, and/or innovation activities) to receive a full bonus. The Akin Gump bonus scale can be seen below:

Class of 2020 – $15,000 (pro-rated)
Class of 2019 – $15,000
Class of 2018 – $25,000
Class of 2017 – $50,000
Class of 2016 – $65,000
Class of 2015 – $80,000
Class of 2014 – $90,000
Class of 2013 – $100,000
Class of 2012 – $100,000

But that’s not all. Each year, Akin rewards associates and counsel who have put in a “truly outstanding” performance, and 2020 is no different. Those who have worked extra hard this year — people whose performance and productivity has been “extraordinary” — will receive additional bonuses ranging from $5,000 – $25,000 above the market level for their class. If you’ve been busting your ass at Akin Gump, you’re in for one heckuva payday.

Bonuses at Akin Gump will be paid no later than February 15, 2021. Congratulations!
