San Francisco, CA; On Wednesday morning, Casetext, the creators of the leading AI-powered legal research service, announced their newest A.I. research tool: CARA Patent. Developed in close partnership with prestigious patent litigation firms and Casetext customers — like Quinn Emanuel and Reed Smith — CARA Patent is the first A.I. technology that delivers research results specifically tailored to the patent in question.
CARA Patent uses artificial intelligence technology developed by Casetext to instantly present the most relevant cases and other IP authorities. The AI technology takes the referenced citations and key technical terms in the patent and uses co-reference analysis, patent-specific motion filters, and patterns in PTAB opinions to discover the most pertinent results. In short, with a simple drag and drop interface, CARA Patent quickly and easily provides IP litigators with the answer to their research question, allowing them to better, and more efficiently, protect the intellectual property of their clients.
“When I first started working on CARA, I kept thinking about how useful AI technology could have been in my IP practice,” said Pablo Arredondo, Casetext’s Chief Product Officer and former Kirkland & Ellis IP litigator. “It felt so backward that the people tasked with protecting the latest, most cutting-edge technologies were relying on out-dated, inefficient tools. With CARA Patent, IP specialists will finally have access to the technology needed to bring their work-product up to the standards of their most tech-savvy clients.”
CARA Patent’s technology stands on the shoulders of the years of research and development that made CARA the fastest growing litigation technology on the market. Since Casetext first introduced CARA in late 2016, over 4,000 law firms have adopted it to improve their general litigation work-product and demonstrate their commitment to effective, efficient client representation. Now, with the first domain-specific application of this novel search technology, Casetext is introducing the next phase of innovation for legal research technology.
CARA Patent is currently only available to select IP litigation practices to allow Casetext to work closely with those firms and iterate the CARA Patent platform based on their feedback and needs. IP practices that would like to be a part of this early release can request access at info.casetext.com/carapatent.
